Waders at the Salines of Bonanza

May 12 2012

Pied Avocets spend the winter together in their hundreds in the Salines of Bonanza, but now the mates found together and the neighbors should better not come too close, otherwise …

… threatening gestures are taken and heavy fights follow:

Green- and Redshanks in contrast just ignore each other:

The nice Common Ringed Plovers …

… control their breeding areas:

The lively Little Stints …

… have to brace themselves for the continuation flights to their breeding areas, as well as …

… the Curlew Sandpipers, which I was able to admire in their …

…different stages of wedding dresses:

"I will also try my luck where I see the Dunlins!" this …

… Curlew Sandpiper is saying to itself and plunges into the Saline basin, where …

… the Dunlins with relish poke for food:

The upcoming strong south wind …

… changed the peacefull puddle of water into …

… a wave pool and …

… so food is thrown up:

The quarrels keep within bounds and I went again home with the happy feeling, that the 'Salines of Bonanza are a place that's priceless, full of food and peaceful resting place for huge flocks of waders on their long journey!

Best regards
